National bestseller and fan favorite! This humorous look at 50 common North American dumb birds is a perfect book for the birder and anti-birder alike.

For those who have a disdain for birds, or for bird lovers with a sense of humor, this snarky illustrated handbook is equal parts profane, funny, and—let’s face it—true. Featuring common North American birds such as the White-Breasted Butt Nugget and the Goddamned Canada Goose (or White-Breasted Nuthatch and Canada Goose for the layperson), Matt Kracht identifies all the idiots in your backyard and details exactly why they suck with humorous yet angry ink drawings. With The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America, you won’t need to wonder what all that racket is anymore!

ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL: This uproarious guide to all things wings includes migratory maps, tips for birding, musings on the avian population, and lessons on the ethics of birdwatching. Plus, each entry is accompanied by facts about a bird’s (annoying) call, its (dumb) migratory pattern, its (downright tacky) markings, and more.

POPULAR AUTHOR: Matt Kracht is an amateur birder, writer, and illustrator who enjoys creating books that celebrate the humor inherent in life’s absurdities. Based in Seattle, he enjoys gazing out the window at the beautiful waters of Puget Sound and making fun of birds. Other hilarious titles from Matt include The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole StupidWorld and OMFG, BEES!

WELL REVIEWED: Critics recommend this laugh-out-loud funny spoof guide:

“There are loads of books out there for bird lovers, but until now, nothing for those that love to hate birds. The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America fills the void, packed with snarky illustrations that chastise the flying animals in a funny, profane way.”—Uncrate

“There are a lot of great bird field identification guides, but after a day afield with The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America, you will never look at birds or birdwatching the same again…You need this book if you want to lighten up your birdwatching.”—Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette

Perfect for: Birdwatching and nature enthusiasts People who think birds are creepy or annoying (and people who love birds but also enjoy a good laugh) Anyone looking for the ultimate coffee table book or bar-top conversation starter Gift givers seeking a fun Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthday, or retirement gift

Title: Enjoyable funny
Review: So. This is 12-year-old humor at its best, in my opinion. It’s stupid, it’s a bit crass, and it’s repetitive. None of those things are flaws. If you enjoy fart jokes and butt jokes and, well, bird watching, this book is for you.I giggled throughout, feeling like this book is best read late at night, under the covers, maybe with a flashlight. It’s a great time!

Review: This book was so very enjoyable from beginning to end. I laughed so hard many times that I had tears in my eyes. Matt Kraft has forever changed how I will look at backyard birds.

Title: Funny but Not Informative
Review: Still not sure if the dumb birds in my yard are crows or ravens – not a remotely exhaustive guide, and hardly even informative. But cute and funny, I’m sure leaving it out on a table will give my guests a good laugh.

Title: Great gift for someone who enjoys a good laugh
Review: I purchased this as a thank you gift for my boyfriend. We have a lot of fun opening to random pages and reading the descriptions out loud to each other. It’s hard to get through one page without laughing hysterically. not appropriate for children.

Title: Funniest nature study ever!!
Review: This might be the funniest educational book I’ve ever read. Matt Kracht knows his birds. His crude descriptions of 50 common birds in North America are spot on and hilariously accurate. There are multiple moments while reading this clever book that I had to stop and catch my breath from laughing so hard that I started to sound like one of the blankety blank birds he was cussing out! I will never ever take a bird for granted again. A perfect gift for a tolerant friend who needs some big belly laughs. Birds may be stupid but Matt Kracht’s observations are not. Even if they do poop all over my car. A lot.

Review: I bought this book years ago. It’s the only book thatsits on my ottoman and I randomly pick it up, especially on bad days, and I cannot express how much it lifts my spirits no matter how bad my day. It is so insanely funny and accurate (if you know birds it’s hysterically accurate). The one I bought from Amazon was my second copy as a gift for a friend. This book (and the related products) are so funny and brilliantly written. Don’t hesitate to buy this book! I’d give it 50 stars if I could!

Review: I love this book so much that I bought one for my dad as a gift and one for myself. We both love backyard birds and live rural, so we have quite the variety of tweeters on our property. This book just roasts a bunch on North American birds and is especially hilarious when you know how these birds behave and why they’ve been roasted by this author. I’m just it would be enjoyable and funny for someone who maybe isn’t an experienced bird connoisseur. Highly recommend, the writing and illustrations are fantastic.

Review: This book is really amusing, the author’s nicknames for the various birds are fun. No replacement for a full field guide (not enough species) but a nice inspiration and jumping-off point for curious would-be twitchers. (British for bird watchers.)
