Title: Very hard to put down.
Review: This book weaves the story of the McGann family into actual history and historical men and women. This is done very cleverly and realistically. Of course, the McGanns are larger than life who naturally prevail but with their own flaws. I found all six of the books arresting reading. The one thing that I didnât like was that every book begins with a McGann seeing a woman and falling in love instantly. Itâs said that a man has two heads, the problem is that every McGann is ruled by the head that is between his legs instead of the one on his shoulders which leads to predictable problems.

Title: Great Naval Family
Review: From Harry McCann to Clive and Walt. This was a great series to read. From old wooden ships of the 17 & 18 hundreds to the iron ships of WW II. A great family history of sea traditions. Love and sex and war. Brutal honesty! Loved every page. A must read!!!!

Title: A great saga of a naval family and of America
Review: I loved all of the books, each of which was expertly constructed around real events. I felt educated by the books. I was only disappointed at the very very end.

Title: Very weak on actual seamanship
Review: The book is well written for what it is but the author does not seem to know much about ships or the sea and how naval battles were fought in this time period. Basic shipboard routine seems to have escaped him. He does have a lot of sexual content in this book which is fine if you like that sort of thing but do not sell it as a naval adventure because it is not. I only read the first book and part of the second before I lost interest.

Title: This sleepless nights series is hard to put down.
Review: It led the reader through several generations of a hero family during the revolutionary war in the US followed by insights of the first and second WW naval history. It is well written and easy to read as the author Christopher Nicole did his home work before putting it to paper.

Title: Couldn’t put them down
Review: Often when a series jumps generation to generation it’s near impossible to keep the readers invested with all the new characters. That is not at all the case here. Each new McGann had their own story to tell, but they were still invariably McGanns and I loved reading about each and every one, even if they were “the worst shits” sometimes.

Title: just superb
Review: A naval family for two centuries and a dozen wars. Legacy in literature. Repetitious infidelities in an attempt romance are the only dissappointments but still a worthwhile read.

Review: I am only half way through the second book, but already enjoying the saga immensely. This genre is possibly over subscribed, and nothing comes close to C.S. Forester, but these books are well written and the author has woven fiction into historical events with great skill. Our fictional hero was involved with the Battle of Chesapeake Bay and the Battle of Flamborough Head, both real events that did not reflect favourably on the Royal Navy (which usually won its battles!). As a Brit I found myself in the surprising position of having a great deal of sympathy with the United States in their revolution. I look forward to reading the rest of the series, which are an absolute steal for the price
