Title: Great book for special effects makeup artist
Review: Great book for reference. For the next edition it would be great to include a time chart for bruises and scabbing.

Title: Excellent pictures, could use more information
Review: This book is exactly what is advertised to be: a collection of high-res reference photos of various injuries. The pictures are large and of good quality, and while some of the images are ones I had already found online most are new to me. The book will definitely have a place on my reference shelf.I’m giving it only four stars because, other than a general introduction to each type of injury, there is no information accompanying the pictures (which can be very helpful when researching a makeup). Yes it’s a cut, but what caused it? What chemical caused that chemical burn? That’s a gunshot wound, sure, but from what range? What caliber? Considering the relatively high price of this book ($49.95 at time of purchase), I feel this is information that should have been included. It may worth adding if a second edition comes around…

Title: Excellent resource
Review: Having this book on hand when you have an idea and unsure how to make the look realistic is so convenient. The pictures are high quality and it being a physical book means I don’t have to keep tapping my screen to keep the image up or clicking on an image only to find that it’s blurry. No, it is not a step by step guide but this book is intended for experienced artists in need for a reference.

Title: ‘Not as useful as it could be…
Review: If you don’t already have a good knowledge of what you’re looking for, you will find this book frustrating. Beyond the most generic of chapter descriptions, you will find NO context to the individual photos. It is at best, just a book of gore. The evolution of a bruise looks vastly different in all its many stages. Also, how the bruise happened will greatly affect how it looks. Granted, a bruise is a very mild example. But it is consistent with the presentation of all the photos enclosed. Without the who, what, when, where, & why of what you are looking at, it severely limits the usefulness of this book! Recreating wounds, injuries, and ailments realistically requires a lot more research than just a random collection of photos, (if that’s all you wanted, any search of the web will achieve that). So, in that regard, this book greatly fails in achieving the lofty goals it could have achieved. And, if you get queasy, easily, this is not for you.

Title: 8×10 High res gory injuries for theater makeup references from real people. Forward by Tom Savini!
Review: This is a top notch book, and a labor of love. Benito has been doing SFX makeup for years, in both local indie films, and also regional commercials. His crew is great to work with, and very experienced, especially in the horror genre. This book is not an instructional book, per se’, it is a visual reference of injuries that have happened to real people. So many make up books show you how to do makeup for injuries by process, but they rarely show what trauma actually looks like. This means the make up artist has to scour Google or medical textbooks, which are expensive to purchase and often lack the resolution to see the injury well. This book is full of high res, often gory, pictures of real people from all over the country that Benito canvassed to ask for pictures of their own injuries. Even better, its forward is written by Tom Savini- a legend in the horror makeup community. Buy it for the macabre, buy it to learn. You won’t be disappointed.

Review: Got this for my MUA wife. Its the perfect book to use to see real wounds. Again this is a reference book and not for the squeamish of heart. It is real wounds to use as a reference for creating the SFX in duplication of the wound. If you are looking for a book to give you step by step instructions, then this is not your book.If you are an experienced MUA and looking for some great reference photos, then this is your book.definitely recommend for the professional MUAStan…
