Product Description

3 LARGE (1/2 to 2+ inch) Golden Mystery Snails (Algae Eaters) by Aquatic Arts

These large and colorful snails are great for adding some color and decoration to your aquarium, but they also serve some very useful purposes. They clean algae off of glass, plants, and decorations, they eat hair algae, and they keep your substrate clean and the correct color.

Mystery Snails are totally safe with any fish, shrimp, or plants, and are completely peaceful. They are quite large as adults, growing 2″+ in size.

NOTE: If you search on the Internet for mystery snails, many results will state that these are the same species as Apple Snails. These are NOT Apple Snails, though they do resemble them in shape. Apple Snails are considered an invasive species and are illegal to own in the United States. Our Mystery Snails do not grow to the tremendous size that Apple Snails do (often as big as an apple).

Recommended Tank Parameters:

– PH level range: 7.6 to 8.4

– Temperature range: 68 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit

– Water type: Hard

Recommended Aquatic Arts Tank Mates:

Other types snails (Nerite snails, Mystery Snails, Sulawesi Snails, etc.), dwarf shrimp (such as Blue Velvet shrimp, Sakura Fire Red Cherry Shrimp, Neon Yellow Shrimp, etc.). They can also be kept with small to medium-sized, non-aggressive fish.

Additional Notes:

With mystery snails, it’s a good idea to make sure the water line in your aquarium isn’t too high, as these snails tend to climb up to the water line to breathe air. Other than algae and biofilm, they also eat fish or invertebrate pellets and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, kale, spinach, or cucumber. Snails are very sensitive to copper, so watch out for copper if you use tap water in your tank.

One of the largest plant-safe freshwater snails, Mystery Snails have lively personalitiesand make great aquarium pets! They complement big or small aquarium decorations, aswell as plants.
This aquarium snail helps clear off glass, real or fake aquarium plants, aquarium decor, and tank substrate. A 7.5 to 10 gallon tank is generally large enough for3 mystery snails.
They can grow to over 2 inches – one of the largest freshwater snails in the aquarium hobby. Other than biofilm, they eat leftover fish food, fish pellets, and blanched vegetables.
Golden Mystery Snail shells are a bright and cheery golden yellow color. They arecompletely peaceful and make great tankmates to most aquarium fish, including Platies.
Basic aquarium supplies required, such as a fish tank air pump. All Aquatic Arts brandplants and animals come with a 100% alive arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Title: Affordable and very healthy!
Review: I was a bit unsure about buying this to be delivered, but he came right away and was packed appropriately. After acclimating him to the water temp, we put him in and he went right to work! He is VERY active and contentedly cleaning the tank. I trust this seller and will buy from them again.

Title: HAPPY, HEALTHY SNAILS AND GREAT SERVICE
Review: The snails arrived quickly after I ordered them. They were packaged snugly in this “fluff” with a heating pack, and nestled in a damp paper towel. I read in the reviews that many people received an extra snail, and I was hoping that would happen to me as well haha…and it did. They sent 4 snails. They were around the size of a quarter, maybe a bit smaller…in my third picture, I’m holding the biggest one and the smallest one in comparison to a coin. That should give you an idea of their size. I wasn’t sure how to know if they were alive, since they were all tucked in their shells. I figured once I put them in the tank, I would know by whether or not they started to move, etc.I put three snails in my main 60gal cichlid tank, and the extra one in my small guppy breeding tank. My biggest concern was that my monster Jack Dempsey would eat and/or kill them, since he has a history of turning small tank mates into snacks. When I first added them to the tank, they did not move or come out of their shells for an hour or so. Jack approached them and nipped at the back of their shell for a moment, but I guess he decided they wouldn’t make a good snack and he left them alone…same with the other large fish in there. After maybe an hour and a half, I came to check on them and they were all crawling around, hanging out on the glass and everything. They are extremely active and I was surprised at how quickly they felt comfortable! The snail I added to my breeding tank is probably the least active, but I’m assuming it’s because it is a small, crowded tank. He was also the “runt” of the litter. His name is Gary. I may move him to the cichlid tank and see if he’s happier there with his snail friends.Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase. The snails are beautiful, happy and healthy, and surprisingly compatible with my chomp-happy Dempsey. This is possibly my favorite Amazon purchase I’ve ever made. Also, when the snails were sent in the mail, I received a friendly email from the company offering customer care for any questions, concerns or problems with the snails. I believe that if something had gone wrong, or if a snail didn’t survive the shipping process, the company would have made things right. They seem to generally care about their customers and aquatic life. Of course they are a business, but I think they enjoy what they do and are living off of their passion and hobby. If I ever get into live plants, or if I want to make any more ‘live’ purchases for my tank, I will definitely go through this company.

Title: Unhealthy
Review: The poor little guy has significant nutrient deficiencies. His shell is all pitted and cracked. Not as healthy as the snail pictured.

Title: Great Snails, Fantastic Company
Review: I’ve ordered plants and fish from Aquatic Arts before and I was extremely impressed by their packaging and health of the fish they provided. So, when I needed some scavengers for my tanks, I opted to once again take a look at Aquatic Arts. And once again, I’m not disappointed but pleasantly surprised with their quality and care.I bought these three snails as a cleanup crew for my 35 tall hex. They threw in a bonus snail too, so now I have four, which is awesome and shows they care. They came wrapped well, I acclimated them to my tank, and set them free. Within minutes, they were all crawling around my tank like living vacuums. They are beautiful and healthy. Their shells add a great contrast to my tank and they are truly gorgeous for being snails. They’re also really fast for being snails; I turn around and they’re all in a new spot, cleaning my rocks or tube lines, on my Amazon sword plant leaves.I’ve only had them for a few days, but they look strong, aren’t shy, and are a great addition to my previously less vibrant tank. I will continue to always order from Aquatic Arts because their care, knowledge, and meticulousness is unmatched.* Update * Just a mere two days latter, these snails have managed to clean the algae from my tank amazingly. They crawl up and down my sword plant, vacuuming it, and now the rocks are nearly half cleaned already. No need for me to get down and dirty cleaning the tank now. Perfect scavengers. Also, just a warning; I’ve noticed they like to crawl up the tank to get some air. So leave a little bit of room between the water and the top hatch so they can breathe. I’ve learned, amazingly, that these snails have one lung to breathe and an apparatus that functions like a fish gill so that they can breath amphibiously.

Title: Tiny Cute Alive
Review: Ordered 5 and Recieved 5 ALIVE snails they are Small about the size of a blueberry…. 2 were floating in the hospital tank but soon sank after some time, i saw little attenae starting poking out and all were well. Very hungry little guys, my tank is full of green algea and when I woke up they had tiny green poops everywhere. I watched one eating algea straight off the glass with its tiny mouth. They are also cleaning my live plants but not eating the plant itself. I have a 40 gal tank with 3 fancy Goldfish they do try to eat them but the snails hide immediately in the shell and are safe and back to business. Thanks! very cute walking gold nuggets :)Fyi – Please remove the package immediately from the mailbox, do not keep it in there or they will cook. I checked Amazon every 1 hr to see if it’s delivered. I did not recieve an email from Amazon instead by checking online of status often I saw delivered in the status. Email was not sent, in just an hr it was very warm inside &the water of the snails was almost hot. PLEASE don’t keep your snails in the mailbox for too long to guarantee Alive and no cooking.UPDATE >> One week later the tank is looking clean, plants are practically free of algea, only small patches on the glass. Very good cleaners, very happy with my purchase. So cute seeing them “run” across the sand.
